Wedding Timelines

Making a wedding timeline can be tricky, but one thing that I have learned as a wedding planner is this. No wedding is perfect and nor should it be. When you have 100 or more gathering in one location and expect it to run 100% smoothly you are signing yourself up for failure HOWEVER with that being said - it is important to have someone who can help you when things DO go wrong. One of the things that wedding coordinators do is create a wedding timeline for you the day of. To make things stress free think of things this way. Your big day can be done simply by using these 5 tactics.

  1. Make sure you pick a time to tie the knot - I always suggest at 2/3 for weddings in the CST timezone. This helps give you the sunset dance that photographers love to get and create the classic night of dancing that so many people enjoy doing for their wedding.

  2. Find an all day photographer OR list out how long you will have them- You want the photographer to be there for the highlights of the day, that way when they are contracted to be there they will make sure that you are having a great time with your spouse. When making the timeline you want to make sure that you factor in the photographer.

  3. Make sure that you think about the get ready photos - the classic get ready photos are typically done BEFORE a bride puts on her dress, so if you want these types of photos then you have to keep in mind that your timeline needs to have a photographer slot so that you all are able to enjoy those photos long term.

  4. Coordinate a time with your DJ for the first dance WHILE your photographer is there- This is something that a lot of brides who are trying to DIY forget - so the photographer ends up getting there sooner than their time was hired for and then you are in trouble because the first dance isn't completed. Keep in mind this is super important for your event to make sure everyone is on the same page.

  5. Keep in mind how long you have your venue- A lot of brides who don't hire a full setup and teardown team end up having a lot of frustration because they end up having to do the tear down themselves after they have been drinking, eating, and spending time with loved ones. Please keep in mind that not all coordinating services will do a clean up for you so if you do not have a family that will participate with cleaning services then make sure that you budget for this.

At the end of the day a proper timeline is made when you can overlap vendors and make sure that the day can run smoothly even when there are a few bumps in the road.
